Presente.org Responds to Senate’s Pause of TPP

May 12, 2015

The following statement can be attributed to Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org:

“This pause is a welcome opportunity to kill the TPP and fast track once and for all. It’s a great sign of momentum to see Senate Democrats finally joining the general consensus on the dangers of this trade deal. There is no winning for everyday Americans on TPP, which in addition to outsourcing jobs would actually allow fossil fuel corporations to sue governments who act on climate change. Furthermore, the last thing Latinos need is a toxic trade deal that would destabilize Latin American economies, driving more waves of refugees north to United States to face our militarized border and a harshly xenophobic and anti-immigrant political climate.”
