Presente.org: President Obama Should Call Freddie Gray’s Murderers Thugs, Not Protesters

Latino Group Calls for Arrest, Prosecution, and Conviction of Police Responsible for Freddie Gray’s Murder

April 28, 2015

Statement from Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org, the nation’s largest online Latino organizing group:

“For far too long, black and brown Americans have faced excessive police violence and even death without accountability. In Baltimore alone, police violence towards communities of color has far too long gone unchecked. The death of Freddie Gray is just the latest in a long history, killed by the police after simply making eye contact with an officer and fleeing. The only way to stop police violence and the senseless murdering of our communities is for President Obama and Attorney General Lynch to take action by assuring the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of all police responsible in Freddie’s death, and countless others.

If President Obama wishes to call protesters that have resorted to violence in desperation ‘thugs,' we certainly hope he extends the epithet to the police officers who murdered Freddie Gray in cold blood. Justice is not justice if the police are exempt.”
